And if you’re still trying to digest WTF you saw, we’ve got you covered. MTV News caught up with Miley during VMA rehearsals and asked her to break down both the song and performance for us.
“It takes the energy and effort to actually go out and do it and make what you want actually happen,” she added. “I think it’s important to talk to young people out there that watch this show and say, ‘If you want something, you have to work for it, but it’s all achievable.’”
In terms of the performance, Miley seemed to be carrying on the message that she started with her #InstaPride campaign earlier this summer.
Love was definitely the overarching theme here.
As usual, Miley’s performance will probably be a talking point for days and weeks to come and she’s curious to see what everyone will think about it. “I’m really excited to see people’s reactions because I hope they can see past the fact that I’m singing about marijuana and they can also hear me begging for peace,” she said.
“People can get distracted — there’s a sentence that says ’peace mother—ers’ — they get so stuck on the fact that I said the word ‘f—k’ and they don’t actually see a woman that’s begging for peace.”
