Ten years ago, Kanye West shattered the notion of a sophomore slump with his Late Registrationalbum. The project, which was released on August 30, 2005, was a labor of love for this year’s MTV VMA Vanguard recipient. In fact, ’Ye said that he actually preferred the recording process over love making.
“It’s even better than sex,” he told MTV News back when he was recording the album. “I’ve turned down an extreme amount of sex in order to work on this album.”
West made the album with producer Jon Brion’s help, something he was very grateful for. “There’s nothing I would trade for this experience,” Yeezus explained. “To be able to learn and see what he brought to the table, it’s like a kid getting that one hour Toys “R” Us shopping spree…except it’s an album-long shopping spree of sounds.”
