Sooooo, yeah, Nick’s new single is basically the hottest, most danceable jam EVER, making it the perfect way to kick off this year’s Video Music Awards.

“I’m really excited. I’m a little nervous. I’m sure there’s going to be some unexpected moments,” he told MTV News’ Sway Calloway on the carpet before his performance.

And ohhh, there definitely were. With his loyal army of Moon Babes at his side, Nick — dressed in head-to-toe black — brought hella sexiness to the VMA pre-show to perform “Levels” for the first time on TV. As he snapped and grooved his way around the carpet — dancing with Kelly Osbourne and high-fiving fans along the way, who’ll probably never wash their hands again — he certified his status as new VMA royalty.

As if that wasn’t enough to make us go gaga over Nick, he followed up by giving one lucky (and awe-stricken) fan a pair of tickets to the show, AND he shared a never-before-seen teaser for his “Levels” music video. And let’s just say, he’s bringing the HEAT.

“The concept for the video — basically, we are in this big space, lot of really interesting art decoration, some tires, some barrels, some beautiful women,” Nick previously told MTV News when we visited him on the video’s set. “Like the song kind of cuts a new path for me, musically, it touches some of the soul elements, but also has that funk side. I think the video means that as well, really fresh.”

Tune in to the VMAs tonight to see if Nick takes home the Moonman for Best Male Video for “Chains.”
